Magnaprobe Mark II-Consisting of a small bar magnet suspended in a gimbal mounting, the supporting frame, handle and bearing pivots are constructed from non-magnetic materials to avoid possible effects on the probe. The Magnaprobe easily and conveniently demonstrates the 3 dimensional nature of a magnetic field. When held within a magnetic field, the direction of the field is indicated by the small magnet which has its North pole coloured red. Approximate dimensions are 135mm long x 400mm wide (at the head). Suitable for both individual work and small scale demonstrations. The Magnaprobe can also be used in the field by geology students investigating the magnetic susceptibility of ferrous rocks. Magnaprobes are individually packed in wallets complete with instructions and experimental suggestions. Magnaprobe Mark I (with jewelled bearings)[B] This is the more sensitive Magnaprobe and has been balanced to show approximately the dip of the Earth's magnetic field. Magnaprobe Mark II - Although less sensitive than the Mark I, the Mark II is designed for laboratory use and shows the true shape of magnetic fields far better than iron filings or a plotting compass.
